Since January 2017–when my husband received a diagnosis of Stage 4 subcutaneous unknown primary–it has been a wild ride.
I feel like we looked over the edge of the abyss and are now (slowly, tentatively) backing away. I know anything can still happen, so I'm not getting cocky. But I am taking this moment to feel a little bit relieved.
Today at the sixth infusion appointment, the onc's exact words were: "You should be very pleased."
The onc agreed with my husband's assessment that "he sucks at having cancer."
The exact numbers showed the tumor down from 2.8 x 2.9 cm to 1.3 x 1.4, so a little more than half gone, halfway through the treatment.
The onc is ok if it isn't all gone as long as it doesn't grow. Scans will show that. Regular scans for the next five years. Just the sound of "five years" is music to my ears. There was a time when we really doubted we were going to make it that far.
This forum has helped so much. My gratitude and affection goes out to all of you.

What wonderful news. I remember how relieved I was when my husband's neurosurgeon said he'd like to see us back in 3 months……at that point, I wasn't sure he was going to make it 30 days much less 3 months. Here we are – 5 years later and still counting. Take care!
