I am confused. Did you ask why the appt was cancelled? If not, I would specifically call back Angeles Clinic and ask if Dr. O'day is still patients at Angles Clinic & why was your appt. concelled??? Did the person you spoke to offer you an appt. with another doctor?

Last I was aware was that he was still there. If he left, it must be quite recent. He may also just have some presentations.

When they cancelled your appointment, did they actually say that Dr. O'Day is no longer at Angeles Clinic?
My husband has been seeing Dr. O'Day for 6 months…..we have 100% faith in him, but he has been gone since just before the ASCO conference in May. The oncology nurses have only told us that he is on an "extended leave", and no one knows when/if he will be back. Although we are comfortable with Dr. Boasberg and Dr. Hamid, we are upset at the prospect of O'Day not being our doctor. We were hoping that since he was the Lead Investigator on the Ippi trials that maybe he needed well-deserved down time.
Dr. O'Day was to present at the plenary session at the ASCO conference, but I can't seem to find out if he was even at the conference. Anyone know?

The only one I am aware of was the June 5th
Session: Melanoma/Skin Cancers
Here is the entire list of presentations:
http://abstract.asco.org/CatAbstView_102_121_AA.html
The only one I could find with his name was:
http://abstract.asco.org/AbstView_102_82040.html
I believe he also has had several presentations other than ASCO recently.

Michael, thank you so much. You are right, I was thinking the conference was at the end of May. I didn't come across the list you provided. It offers a lot of info on recent developments in research.
Much appreciated!

I have seen another O'day patient, Julie, post many times.
Julie, if you see this post, do you know anything about DR. O'day leaving Angles Clinic?
Are you scheduled for an appt with O'day in the future?

Hi Friends,
I'm just getting back to Thailand from an extended trip to Cambodia (and no inet 🙁 ) so I'm just seeing this.
This news is a bit shocking to me. I haven't had an appointment with Dr. O'Day since March and I didn't hear anything then. I wasn't scheduled for another until Dec. I'll see what I can find out and let you know.

My husband has weekly appointments at Angeles Clinic. The last time Dr. O'Day was there was mid May. Dr. Hamid and Dr. Boasberg have been seeing him each time since then. I feared something was going on since no one on the staff seemed to know when Dr. O'Day would be back from his "extended leave". I do hope that he and his family are okay and that he will be back. If not, it better have been a significantly better offer that lured him away. We want him back!

My doctor's just referred me on Friday to see Dr. O'Day as soon as possible. I called and left a message but have not heard back yet. If I learn anything, I will let you know. Does anyone have another suggestion for a melanoma specialist, either at Los Angeles Clinic or elsewhere in Southern California? I'm going to see Dr. Jakowatz at UCI.
-

Are you looking for an Oncologist??? Dr. O'day is an oncologist.
Dr Jakowatz is a surgeon, his specialty is melanoma surgeries. Dr. Jakowatz is not an oncologist.
Dr. Jakowatz has treated me & suffice is to say, I cannot recommend him for several reason. Also, UCI Medical Center is the worst and treats you like a number.
Also, the clinical trials at UCI are limited & much better at Angeles Clinic and UCLA
I would pick another doctor at Angeles Clinic or UCLA & stay away from Dr. Jakowatz.

I think Angeles Clinic is closed on Friday, so that would make sense that you haven't heard back yet. I am dying to hear what they tell you about O'Day when they call back. Since O'Day has been away, my husband has been seeing Dr. Hamid and Dr. Boasberg at Angeles Clinic. We are comfortable with them both, but I think my husband is leaning toward Dr. Boasberg. They both have given their time and personal attention during the visits, and are both involved in research, so they seem to me to be up on the latest studies and findings. Although O'Day is known as "the man", and we hope to be seeing him again, he does seem to be a little rushed during his visits. My husband also saw Dr, Antoni Ribas at UCLA. He didn't have quite as positive attitude as as the doctors at Angeles but we wouldn't hesitate to go to him again, if needed. A friend of mine, who is being treated for melanoma brain metastases at USC Norris, is very happy there. Sorry that I don't know his doctor's name. Good luck with your decision!

He is gone. I was just there on Thursday and they said as of Friday he is no longer there. I see Dr Hamid who is wonderful. No one is saying where he is or why he left. Let me tell you his wife has battled BC a few years back so it could be personal too. Im sure I will know next time I go in 4 weeks-I travel there once a month even though BRAF is approved and see my local onc in town.

Intersting about him leaving. I saw this post the same day you posted 9/12/11. Obviously the staff is telling us 2 stories! Wonder wish story is true!
I had heard during my last appoint in August that it would be early December.
Life is too short to be anything but happy. Falling down is a part of life, getting back up is living.
PLEASE post in 4 weeks whatever you find out>
Thanks,
