Does anyone have experience with Kaiser So. Cal.? Specifically Drs. Sherry Hsu and Helen Moon?  Also, has anyone been able to get Kaiser to pay for a second opinion outside of Kaiser>

We have Kaiser in Northern Ca so I can't speak to Riverside..but we did get Kaiser to pay for a second opinion at Stanford. Also a second opinion on pathologiy at UCSF and a third one at U Mass.

I asked for the second opinon and there was no hassle.

The pathology second and third opinions were done by my sons doctor since his melanoma was so unusual.

      Good luck

We were unable to get a second opinion through kaiser Roseville. He was in a clinical trial of ipi vs interferon and had progression. He is NED now after surgery so we have not persued getting a second opinion  now.  They did say he could get keytruda if necessary now that it has been approved.

We have Kaiser, No CA, and they paid for husband's 1st consult ref to UCSF.  We understood they only pay for 1st ref. Since we wanted a follow up consult, we paid for it.  His case was discussed in house by the consultant doc with another UCSF specialist but we didn't have to pay for it out of pocket, Medicare & Kaiser did. A.L.

My husband Frank wanted a second opinion.  We use Kaiser Walnut Creek (Bay Area). I called the oncology department and they said we could get a second opinion anywhere but we would be responsible for all charges unless the second opinion was at another Kaiser facility. Now I'll check again and see if we can get better care. Frank has been on the Tafinlar – Mekinist combo for six weeks now with visible tumors shrinking.
