I'm trying to find a good derm in NYC – looking for recommendations. I referred my friend to one on the East Side but she doesn't take Aetna insurance anymore. Any suggestions would be appreciated. This will be for annual skin checks from someone that is at risk but currently not a melanoma patient – but a faimly history.

You can try Roy Geronemus. He is on the east side very close to NYU

I saw Dr. David Polsky at NYU – he has 2 offices. They were all great and he knew more about melanoma than anyone I've seen as far as dermatologists. They didn't take my BCBS because I live in NC but my son sees this doctor and I thought as a Stage III NED patient, it was worth getting checked out by someone like this. The place is called Ronald O. Perelman Dept of Dermatology.
I got in pretty quickly as I was just there visiting.
Good luck.

I had worked with Dr Andrew Brionin in RyeBrook but you will need to see if the insured takes him as out of network. The other response mentioned Dr Roy Gerenemous. I had gone to him for MOS surgery for what turned out to be a basil cell issue. I don't know if he is viewed as a melanoma derm specialist or as a specialty surgeon. As I now have stage IV diagnosis I see the derm staff at MSK in addition to the other specialists there Scheduling is easy and they all can coordinate. I can't speak more highly about an institution than MSK. It has met my expectations for the Oncology, Surgical, radiation, neurology and derm needs I have had during this illness. I feel like I have a dream team trying to keep my alive. Good luck in whichever direction you go.

Apologies. I reread your post and saw the skin scan derm referral request. I took you too far along to a post diagnosis team. Dr Bronin gave the best skin scans I have ever had in my life. Peering everywhere in quadrant under a high power lamp while in the exam room. I have yet to find a derm with a thorough an exam. It boggles my mind how many over the years have given me a scan under a recessed ceiling fluorescent light bulb. Could never figure that out. I have also had some dermis ask why I want a skin scan for melanoma since I aleady progressed to stage IV. I figured since I am invested in killing the Mel that slipped into my body I should try to keep more from developing on the outside. Love to hear any opinions if I am just wasting time doing scans. Thanks.
