I was diagnosed in June with superficial spreading melanoma. Breslow thickness .62. I had a excision in June margins were not clear. July I went back & had wide excision done got clear margins. Stitches have been out 3 weeks. Three days ago my scar started hurting . Had some phs & clear drainage from end of scar. Now there appears to be some blustering on scar. Sent a picture to the surgeon & he said it looks normal. Is it normal to have blisters on scar with drainage?
I am a breast cancer survivor & have a family member that died from Melanoma

My scar from the same type of melanoma (thickness .30 but in the middle right above the quad muscle) has gone through all kinds of weird changes and was nasty pink/red and irritated even five months later. It looks great now that a year has gone by. But even a month ago I had a bump in it that turned out to be a missed stitch that was emerging. I had two layers of stitches and managed to rip the lower stitches. I thought (oh no! — it's a recurrence — but it wasn't). If it's still looking weird after a couple of weeks, you might check with your doctor again. But in my experience so far I've found that most things resolve themselves after a couple of weeks, and if not, then it's time to check with the doctor. So if it still hasn't gone away in a couple of weeks, maybe check again especially given your family history. Take care!

I am almost sure this is an issues related to stiches only, not anything with recurrence or the like. Pls keep us updated!

My neck dissection scar from last October has been bumpy from the start; since then, I've been told this is normal. However, in my case, it's actually a recurrence–for which I'm having a second neck dissection this week (postponed from last week) and will be starting pembro. In hopes that my experience helps you and others, here's what I should have done differently: I had been alternating my 3-month skin checks between a regular derm and a melanoma specialist. If I could rewind, I would see only the melanoma specialist and ask for a FNA for bumps. Sorry, not more comforting, but I think it's important to investigate–even if the main result is  peace of mind.

Thank you, for your responses. I am thinking it is a issue with stitches or the hair growing back. The spot is on my lower for arm. I see my oncologist for a follow-up on the breast cancer on Tuesday . I am going to have him take a look. The only other thing that concerns me is the pain in that arm. Feels like a sharp burning pain. It’s not constant I figured it may just be nerve damage but felt like this before I had the melanoma removed.
