      Hi everyone,

Writing cause I am having a hard time sleeping. My fiance was diagnosed with melanoma in August 2017, had it removed, had her WLE and SLNB and we are greatful everything came back okay.

Fast forward to two days ago (5 months following), my fiance complained of a pain in her vaginal area and a bump which gave her a hard time walking at work yesterday. Within the span of two days the bump has grown quite large as her labia is quite inflammed.

We went to our family doctor, who I don't have the most confidence in, and she said it is a bartholin gland cyst (can't see it but can feel it–a medium size marble and that side of her vaginal area (labia) is quite inflammed). She was given a course of antibiotics.

I am still on high alert mode but she has never had anthing like this before, so I am just making sure this is a big coincidence following last years diagnosis. Wondering if we should get some sort of testing done?(I dont know what… ultra sound, biospy?). I know this might seem silly but I was just wondering if antibotics can mask signs of something more troubling…aka reduce the inflammation but potentially hide something else.

Our family doctor makes things difficult and it would be difficult to suggest seeing someone else (a specialist) as it will look like we are overstepping her diagnosis. I kinda suggested it while at her office but she was having none of it and was admant thats what it was.I live in Canada so a referal to any kind of specialist has to be done through a family doctor. I was thinking because we had an oncologist, we might be able to phone his office and request a followup.

      Thoughts? Perspectives? Course of Action?

I wouldn’t worry about this…Bartolin cysts are very common and these symptoms are right in line.  It should resolve with treatment but if not (or if it recurs) a referral to a gynaecologist wouldn’t be unreasonable to ask for.

I have been misdiagnosed /twice/ with "cysts" by local doctors which  turned out to be melanoma/melanoma recurrence, losing precious time to pursue an immediate  treatment. If that bump is not supposed to be there, this is already reason for concern .Be vigilant and leave nothing to the chance.I would urge  you to seek the expertise of medical center of excellence/melanoma specialist ASAP. This cancer can hide and blend, its very sneaky and unpredictable. I would also request scans they can indicate what exactly is going on/ although scans can never fully reveal the whole picture due to their limitations/.Best wishes to you both

Where was her original melanoma?  Because if it wasn't in that same area, then extremely unlikely this has anything to do with melanoma.  Antibiotics won't mask anything related to melanoma.  Bartholan gland cysts are common, can become infected and cause pain and discomfort.  Sound familiar?  You need to look for the most obvious cause first.  Now in a few weeks if things aren't improved, that's a different story.

It was on a completly different part of the body.

"Bartholan gland cysts are common, can become infected and cause pain and discomfort.  Sound familiar?"

and those symptoms describe what she feels so yes it is an inflammed Bartholan gland cyst.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Going to run her course of antibotics, than all will be good. Thanks everyone.

Janner you are amazing. Thank you
