Hello, I was diagnosed with melanoma in situ on my neck in April. Had the WLE done with 8mm clear margins. I am meeting my family Dr. today – should I request any bloodwork that may be helpful in light of my recent diagnosis? Thanks!

There are no blood tests specific for melanoma. People with more advanced disease might be monitored for liver functions and other markers, but those are again, not specific for melanoma. For someone with an in situ melanoma, there is really nothing to monitor — except your skin!

Uk Nice guidelines say check vit d levels- and manage so they are in the normal range.
https://www.nice.org.uk/guidance/ng14/chapter/1-recommendations
see 1.3. Guess after Melanoma diagnosis we might avoid the sun and reduce vit d levels,
link to pod cast which supports NICEguidlines http://www.genomel.org/news/vitamin-d-and-melanoma-new-podcast/
Good Luck..

There aren’t any tumor markers (blood tests) for melanoma at this time. My husband is currently enrolled in a special clinical research bloid study watching his blood levels and his responses to treatments to try to determine if there are any potential blood markers that would be beneficial. He is stage 4 Mets to lungs and liver. LDH is one blood test they do watch but not a reliable marker. -
