After 11 1/2 years cancer free, now have lesions on my liver

I was initially diagnosed in early 2013 with stage IIIa melanoma cancer in one lymph node). I started thinking I was home free after 10 years with no recurrence. A recent CT scan showed lesions on my liver, and the terror is back. I have to wait several weeks for an MRI of my liver, so I don’t yet know whether it’s cancer or related to my melanoma. Has anyone else had metastasis after more than 10 years?

I am sorry. Whatever it is, I am sorry. Your doctor has probably already explained this but it may or may not be melanoma. There are plenty or people in this board who have had multiple major health conditions, even multiple cancers. If the MRI seems to suggest metastasis then a careful doctor and frankly, likely required by insurance, will probably be a biopsy next to confirm the type of cancer. At various points I have lung and breast cultures biopsies done and each time they were not presumed to be melanoma without a clinical diagnosis, even with a giant brain met in my head. Than you can get a treatment plan together or get transferred to the appropriate care.

Thank you for the reply. It’s good to hear from brave survivors, like you! My doc managed to get me scheduled for an MRI on Saturday, so I’m hoping to have answers next week. I’ve been so fortunate to have over 10 years of clean scans, that I’m really out of practice dealing with the waiting and uncertainty. I just need to stay sane for a few more days to find out what I’m dealing with.
