Ok so apparently my slides were examined by Raymond Barnhill from UCLA! He is a Melanoma expert! And he can't even determine the melanoma … But he recommend the SLNB and the wide excision. Does any one know this expert at all?!  What can you tell me about him? My surgery is next Tuesday I have to have a skin graph on my leg … They are taking skin from my stomach… Dr said I will have to have a cast for 1-2 months and be in a wheel chair in order for the skin graph to heal properly… So far I just know that from the sentinel node biopsy I will have a drain… Wow all this Is so overwhelming…

When I had my initial biopsy at Emory, they could not conclude with certainty that the lesion was Melanima.  So, they sent a little piece of me to Barnhill for a,look.  He concluded it was inconclusive.so evidently he is a renowned derm pathologist who tries to determine cases which stump others.  After it all, there was enough to suggest I should treat this as melanoma and in fact did.

Wow! That's like exactly like mine… On my clinical diagnosis it's says melanoma vs spitz and that can cannot determine malignancy apparently I have a lot melanoma features

what is crazy tho is that on my report Barnhill is the one who suggested I get the sentinel node … Did they end up finding anything when they did your Sentinel node? Just curious thank you!

They did.  I had two nodes out of 5 with microscopic cells which classified me as 3A.  I went for the whole enchilada after that and had a complete lymph node dissection (CLND).  There were no positive nodes (and now there are no nodes!) detected in the CLND.

Did Barnhill do the FISH DNA test on your lesion?

Where at on your leg? I was supposed to have a skin graft for my calf which was fairly large and they ended up not needing to. Plastic surgeon was able to close it, they went down to the muscle. As far as the sentinel node, you do not get a drain for that. You would only get a drain if the sentinel node is positive. Then you would need a lymphadectomy which would cause you to need a drain.
