Pre-op will be all the usual for anyone undergoing anesthesia. Weight , height, history, respiratory check etc. sometimes blood depending on history and lest date of tests. Should be too bad.

I had my SLNB before my first WLE.  My WLE was a major operation because of its location and landed me in the hospital for 4 days, so I went through all the preop blood work and counseling, etc.  Not that any of it was a big deal actually.  I have done it now for all 3 of my surgeries for melanoma in the past 18 months.  But my SLNB was bilateral and involved a fairly good-sized, 3-inch incision in both inguinal areas so it was definitely a surgery, and I would think even if I'd had it done at a different time than my WLE, I still would have needed to prepare for a surgical procedure.

Any that I had was really minor.  No testing; perhaps a few questions.  I had the dye to find the correct bodes, went to the OR and had the C!ND done.  I also, had it in my left groin.  It was day surgery and I left two hours afterward.

I basically just had a health history completed. No blood work, no scans except for the one to find the Sentinal node on the day of surgery.  Had the surgery (WLE )  of left thigh and small incision to the left groin. Out of hospital in about 8 hours from start to finish.

If there is anything you need to do pre-op, your surgeon should have told you. The last thing a surgeon wants is to get to the OR and find out they have to reschedule because something wasn’t done (huge waste of time and money for them). Pre-op protocol may vary by hospital / surgical center. For my WLE and SNB, and later CNLD, I had to have basically a physical plus some blood work. The surgeon provided me with a form for my general to fill out, and they also ordered the blood work. You may need to make appointment to get the physical and blood work done (you shouldn’t have a problem getting an appointment quicklyis you explain your situation). If the surgeon hasn’t mentioned any of this to you, I would call their office to double check. I’ve had 3 other major surgeries (besides the melanoma surgeries) at different facilities and I’m pretty sure I had the same/similar pre-op requirements at all facilities…. However, I wouldn’t be overly worried if your requirements are different, your hospital may just have different requirements, plus sometimes extra or less things are required based on various risk factors
(I.e. any othere health problems you may have, age, etc). Hope that helps!

I had only a history before my 11/20/2014 SLNB and WLE. But then for my 12/29/2014 CLND I did have a pre op appointment with more test etc.  Sending prayers your way.
