side effects to IPI – can they start immediately?

Forums General Melanoma Community side effects to IPI – can they start immediately?

My husband just had his first IPI (Yervoy) infusion yesterday.  They told him that side effects wouldn't happen for 3 or 4 weeks, but today he has slight flu like symptoms, enough to keep him in bed and no appetite. Maybe he caught a bug from his salad lunch at a restaurant yesterday or dinner, but it seemed like such a coincidence to be one day after treatment, that it seems like it has to be from treatment. When we called the dr office, they were doubtful it could be from the treatment.  Anybody else have side effects within the first day or two of first Yervoy treatment? Thanks for your help.

I'm sorry to hear he's having a rough time, i didn't have any side effects from Yervoy, maybe some fatigue every now and then (which could be from the interferon i did before Yevoy)..I drank lot's of water and v-8 juice..Good luck..Don't forget the Vit D 3 everyday..

      Hi Rose,

I had light side effects on the days I had infusions 1 and 2. I would describe it as fatigue, lack of appetite and energy, and generallly just feeling kind of blah. Not as bad as flu but less than 100%.

Thanks for the info. interesting that no matter what they tell you to expect we seem to always have to expect the unexpected. We called dr office – they said his stomach flu-like feelings yesterday (and today) cannot be related to the treatment because it's too soon. Maybe it was from something he ate, but basically what you described (plus diarrhea today) seems to be how he felt yesterday.

        Thanks for your reply.

When I started treatment almost 4 years ago I had the same symtoms and my doctors warned me I could feel that way. Other symptoms started in less than 1 week of treatment, my doctors were surprised about that. I wish the best for your husband!!

Thanks for the input, everyone.  He's had diarrhea but the dr says it can't be related to treatment because there is no way he could have that reaction after first treatement and just one day later.  Maybe we just had bad luck of catching a bug.
