    I had a melanoma removed May 2005 it was .45 Clarks level 2. Recently, my wife discovered a reddish zit like bump on my back on 9/10/14 and slowly but gradually it has decreased in size. Also, about a week ago she squeezed the cyst and white pus came out. Now, I went to the Derm 2 days ago and she said it was just a cyst.

    So, as a Stage 1A patient from 2005 should I be worried about this cyst? What should I do? Just wait for the body to take care of the cyst on its own? It has slowly but gradually seem to be getting smaller but again as a Melanoma patient I freak out. Is it a worry or just paranoia?

    Any thoughts?

      Cysts with pus have absolutely nothing to do with melanoma.  Let it heal and move on.  You've already seen the derm and she confirmed it is nothing to worry about.  Listen to her!

        Thanks for the reassuring words. I guess I should let the body heal and absorb this naturally. So, just because the cyst had white pus makes it noncancerous? Just curious.

        Why pus is infection (white blood cells,etc).  Melanoma would be a solid tumor (melanocytes).  They just aren't in the same ballpark.  Don't read more into things than are really there.   Give it a month.  If it doesn't heal on it's own, you can call the doctor.  But truthfully, you need to let your body just take care of stuff.  If you hadn't had a melanoma diagnosis, would you have given the cyst another thought?  Think in those terms!  Look for the most likely explanation first, and cysts are much more common than melanoma disguising itself as a cyst and fooling your derm.  It's just not realistic.

        Thanks for the informative reply. My derm, a daughter of a dermatologist, so she grew up in an environment where skin is crucial. Anyway, my derm specified that perhaps I could get the cyst removed if it bothered me. However, I'd like to see what my body does first and give it a month or so like you say.

        Also, I should add, that cysts seem to just perturb me. And, what made me go to derm in 2005 was a cyst on my neck that eventually went away as well. So, I should just go with the obvious and deal with this pesky back cyst that seems to be gradually, but slowly getting smaller.
