    I got my results back from my SLNB today and one of the lymph nodes out of the four taken out was positive.. believe it was .9mm..So with that said opinions on getting the superficial nodes removed or going with ultrasound monitoring of the nodes until anything else shows up? I'm really leaning on not having anymore nodes removed at this time as I work standing for 10/12 hours a day. I know the side effects of having more lymph nodes removed from the groin is extemely high and with it showing up in only one of the four removed believe I'll play the 80% odds of it not being in anymore…thoughts?

      Hello, I am sorry to hear that one of your lymph nodes was positive for melanoma.

      I was in a similar situation to you 14 years ago and it is not an easy decision on what road to take.  Everyone is different and whatever decision you make, it will be right for you.

      I had one positive node with extracapsulary spread in my groin.  I made the decision to have a full lymph node dissection followed by radiation therapy which resulted in lymphodema in my leg.  I've learned to manage it and luckily it's not too bad and I can live with it.  I'm still alive and NED and getting on with life.

        Tough choice and as Bubbles and Nicky both mention, the right choice is the one you make.  My surgeon and I were discussing the options and this is what moved me to have thenCLND.  He said if you're the type of person who upon waking and during every spare moment will be thinking about what may be inside, it may be better emotionally to have it done. ,or if a year from now you had additional spread,  I might feel like I lost my "golden moment" then again, he suggested I may want to consider the surgery.  I will also add , he was involved with a study that compared survival with ultra sound, watch and wait to surgery and was looking for watch and wait folks.  I believe he gave me both options fairly and I decided to have it done.  That was 2 1/2 years ago .  Ii have very little lymphadema….most of the time, no symptoms whatsoever.  I play golf, run and exercise regularly. Everyone is different both physically and emotionally buy wanted to share since you asked.

        Thank you all for the replies and personal stories. It's definitely going to be a tough decision for me, thankfully I have a few days to think about it before my follow up appointment on Wednesday…

        Well…I went with watch and wait…first lymph node ultrasound in January so wish me luck lol.  Even though the oncologist couldn't recommend it as it wasn't the standard treatment said she was comfortable with my decision with my pathology results…so made me feel some solace that I made the right decision under my circumstances…
