    Just had a suspicious mole/blemish removed Tuesday. Found out yesterday that it tested positive for melanoma. Have to go back and get it exited (which I think means completely removed) June 7th. I decided to look up melanoma this morning and am now freaked out. Us it OK to wait a month to get it exited (whatever that means)

      Waiting a month is fine.  This has been studied and there are no negative effects by waiting.  Get a copy of your pathology report as stated above and post it and then we can give more specific info.

      You state that you are not having it done until June 7th…thats almost 2 months.  My dermatologist wanted it done within a week of my biopsy results (melanoma) and was upset that I had to wait almost two to be fit into the surgeons schedule.  Go somewhere else!!!  TWO months or even one is TOO long to wait!

      I’d advise you to find a different dermatologist. Waiting 2 months on this type of cancer is like playing Russian roulette.

      You should also talk to your relatives and see if any of them have had it. The first in our family was my sister 4 years ago, then me 2 years ago, followed by my Mom and her sister last year. My Mom has stage IV and is BRAF positive, which is genetic. I understand that 3 blood relatives with melanoma makes it more likey that you could carry the BRAF mutation, which means its a bit more deadly… The rest of us had ours removed, but need lots,of followup.
