Have been dealing with Melanoma Stage 4 to Liver for over a year. Multiple traditional therapies and clinical trials attempted. Not much success. Anyone have a recommendation for alternative therapies such as supplements/health food items??

It would help responses if you tell us what therapies you have tried. Aare you takiing any type of chemo at present? Also I hope you are aware that certain supplements often work against the standard therapies, depending on the mode of action they are designed for. If the therapy is designed to ride into the tumor cells on oxidents, hugh doses of anti-oxidents can reduce the treatment drugs reaching the tumors. I also read an article last week that a recently completed study determined that Omega-3's counteract some chemo treatments. They did not state what chemo treatments were countered nor what mode of operation those chemos used (I would like to know more details on this study.)
As a general rule I do recommend tumeric Extract (95% curcumin) as discussed in the MDA study (http://www2.mdanderson.org/cancerwise/cancer-prevention/nutrition/)
Also I try to take Broccolli and asparagus. I try to get most of my andti-oxidents from food items, not from supplements. (My treatment rides on oxidants.)
If not on any treatment I then try to use larger amounts of anti-oxidants.

I recommend getting the book,"Knockout" by Suzanne Somers. I thought it was going to be all new-agie (new word) so I was not anxious to read it, but my sister was relentless. I finally opened it up and read the book in one sitting. Not only was it fascinating, but you might recognize the names of some of the contributing oncologists, and they spell out the science behind their alternative medicine claims. I found a lot of the information very compelling, some of it not so much. Definitely worth the read, though.
The thing I don't get about melanoma is how differently it can manifest in different people and also how differently people react to the same medication. It's a crazy disease!

Christy, the problem with Melanoma is that it is NOT one disease! Currently (and maybe never) there is no one thing that can be done to stop it. From the signaling path standpoints, the DNA mutation standpoints and the treatments required for each of them, Melanoma is perhaps a hundred or more diseases. It is not the same one disease in each person. There are certain likenesses in many, but there are also many differences. Some melanomas are more l ike some other types of cancer than they are like other melanomas as far as treatments that have postitve effects.
Here is a good article to help understand some of the factors involved.

Hi,
I am very sorry that you have to deal with this terrible disease! I am a caregiver; therefore, I can just share experience of my aunt (melanoma stage 3 diagnosed in 2007). Well, after several surgeries, she wasn`t responding to chemo or radiotherapy as good as hoped, so her oncologist advised her to consider virotherapy (it is considered to be an effective treatment method in Latvia, especially for melanoma patients). She was very doubtful, but representatives of Virotherapy Center were very helpful and explained everything to her. So she tried out this method, and it worked for her. She`s been NED for almost two years.
But I really want to remind you, that, as others here said, every person is very individual and no one knows whether this method is appropriate for you or not.
Anyhow, maybe consult your doctor about this possibility, it you have no response to chemo!
Wishing you all the best in recovering fast,
A
