My husband Dave goes in for a routine set of scans today. We had a family scare with my 30 year old brother being diagnosed with Stage IV peritoneal carcinomatosis, which sent Dave into a panic mode. He spoke with his onc and decided to also add a soft tissue of the neck scan, since he's had a feeling of something "stuck" in his throat for sometime. Just hoping that all come back clear so that he can resume his A+ positive attitude!!

Maria – extra prayers for ease and stress reducing in the scan today, and then for good results. Isn't it something how that ice gets thin, how things can thin out that ice—other people's issues can creep into our heads and make the worry increase. I don't know that there is ever a time approaching scans when my head doesn't spin right around!! July will be my time. You think to yourself that you are ever so appreciative of these good days that have been blessed upon us, and you want to replay them (at least I do!!), thinking please, please, please….
I have to admit that I have taken Janner's approach lately, as this "junior" senior-citizen status I am now in (I prefer to think of age 62 this way) is fraught with new aches and pings and pangs. So, I give those pings and pangs a week. I can actually think, oh ok, let's see how this is tomorrow. Honestly, everyTHING that I feel can worry me, but this method of giving it a week has helped tremendously (thanks, Janner). But, come July….different story. I'll dwell—I know I will. It's six years for me, total relationship with mel, and 3 yrs NED. (deep inhale here….)
Please let us know how Dave is doing. I remember so well when you came to the board—and we still haven't met! I think this retired couple should take a drive to the southtowns country for some special icecream somewhere. Kids will be done with school next week, and it WILL be summer! Take care, Maria.

So good to hear from you Carol! It does seems strange that so much time has gone by – Dave has been doing so well, but he does goes through this once a year. He goes back in July 8th for results, and I am keeping positive that all will be well! We really do have to get together!

Hi Maria..sorry to hear about your brother. I am curious to see how the scans turn out because my husband has had the feeling of something stuck in his throat for over 2 months. He had a doc take a look with a camera and they saw nothing. So his next scans are in Aug and I am not sure if he should get them before or even if he can get them at all because Blue Cross Blue Shield supposedly is getting strict with scans for stage 3 Ned.I will be feeling your scananxiety with you! Please let us know how things go.
Sending you peace and calm as you wait.

Hi Emily… I will definitely let you know his scan results. He mentioned the "stuck in the throat" feeling a few months ago, but it wasn't until my brother was admitted that he started getting nervous. We just switched insurance from BC/BS to Univera, so I'm not sure how much this will even cost us this time (high deductible policy).
I will keep you posted…

Emily, I find it so odd that our situations are so similar. My husband will be 41 in August – please, if he is still having that feeling in his throat, have him go in for a scan ( Dave actually wasn't supposed to go in until December). They found a 3.6 x 3.4 cm mass that he is having biopsied Wednesday. Go with his gut feeling – if something doesn't feel right, set up an appointment.
