Hi guys, i imagine some of you may know and have experience in this, does either a Colonscopy or a Endoscopy reach the Jejunum area of the small intestine? Apparently thats where the “light up” occured in my CT & PET scans…any word on this would be appreciated, i couldnt find any answer on the web, Mayo, Amercan Cancer etc…thanx

Hey Mike,A colonoscopy looks at the colon only. An endoscopy looks at the small intestine, which includes the jejunum. The endoscopy can be done with a physical ‘scope’ the doc looks through or in “capsule” form – in which you swallow a capsule that includes a camera – think: go pro, The Magic School Bus, or Innerspace!! HA!! The jejunum is the middle part of the small intestine, which is composed of the duodenum, jejunum and illeum. So even to check the jejunum with a scope can be a little tricky. A PET scan, an air contrast study, an upper GI (where you drink a radiographic opaque beverage like barium and are scanned as it goes down) are often used to evaluate the area….but you’ve already done part of that! Hope that helps. Probably need to talk to your docs about what they are planning exactly. Wishing you my best, always! celeste

I had one of those pesky little boogers in that same area Mike. I think I started with a colonoscopy and they found nothing. Next a endoscopy and again nothing. I then swallowed the magic school bus as Celeste describes and it caught a glimpse of something. They followed that up with another type of endoscopy. Don’t remember the name but essentially they get the scope heading down toward your intestines and it has an inflatable outer ring. As it winds it’s way down your intestines the outer ring inflates, they push the camera further down and then deflate the outer ring and repeat. It’s sort of a inch worm type effect. This enabled them to get further down to the small intestines and eventually find my trouble spot. Hopefully your “light up” is something else. Good luck.Brian
