My husband had his first infusion of Opdivo a week ago today. He is feeling good and hasn't really had any side effects except a little fatigue the day after the infusion. Do side effects increase with each infusion? If he isn t experiencing side effects does that mean it's not working? I hope I'm not asking dumb questions. Thanks any feedback is appreciated.

Side effects don't necessarily correspond with treatment efficacy. I had very few side effects with Keytruda until 18-20 months into infusions, and it worked quite well in eliminating my lesions, as well as stopping anything new from cropping up. Best wishes for good results and continued lack of side effects! 🙂

I would say it may still be early to notice any significant side effects. I started on the combo with Yervoy being the one causing most of the quick side effects. The rash came towards the end of the second week and 24 months later I still have it. I have noticed after the double dose it flares up for about a week but has really never itched until the double dose and then only in new spots on the back of both hands. My fatiuge has been horrible along with insomnia. I often fall asleep at my desk at work. Some days I go home and go straight to bed. Be patient.

I also want to say I have had 6 side effects that all came about while on the combo, since I have been on just opdivo I still have 5 of the side effects and have not had any new ones.

Hi Amie, here is a link to a detailed report on side effects of check point inhibitors developed by SITC, which is an organization for Immunotherapy oncologist and researchers. The report is broken down into sections with stats and how to treat based on how sever the side effect. I hope you find it helpful, also remember that most of us on Nivo have low grade versions of the side effects and if caught early and treated they are usually easy to reverse. Best Wishes!!!Ed https://jitc.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s40425-017-0300-z

I had very mild side effects for the most part. I am grateful to have no lasting effects from treatment and it worked! So, hopefully your husband continues to have very few side effects and gets a great response as well.
