    Hey admin;

    Anything you can do about the spam? I really enjoy this sight for support and knowledge but the spam makes it very difficult for me to even find the legit posts. Kind of worried that this sight might have malware/harmful viruses etc…..the way things are going. I don't really want to stop checking and using the site but kind of worried…

    Thanks,

    Ted

      You can contact the admins by selecting About and then Contact Us. The "report" button has been missing for a while, so more cumbersome to let them know.

      Hello,

      Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I have deleted the spam posts that I saw. If I've missed something, please let me know here or at smoneer@melanoma.org. Our web team is checking on updates and recalibrating filters. I'm so sorry for this inconvenience.

      How do you spell spam??? I think it is time to allow someone like Janner to have  post deleting power for spam!!!! Let's put it to a vote!!! I vote yes to spam killing power for Janner, anyone second the motion?

        I second the motion!!!  Though I'm not sure it is a job Janner wants as she, I'm sure, has her own already.  I fail to understand why those who ARE paid by MRF can't ~

        A:  Employ an IT team that can put in effective spam blockers,

        B: Have an "on call" schedule to simply take a look at this forum, at least three times a day, to deal with such problems as they arise.

        It is a shame that there are such A$$holes in the world.  But, if the site can block "DickK" from using his long running handle, and has donors enough to do all the other things MRF wonderfullly supplies, then surely, there is sufficient ability and funding to fix this problem.

        Hang tough, folks.  I am holding out hope that this will be effectively resolved very soon!!!!

        Hi all,

        Yes, we are working on the issue and our web team found a broken module that will be fixed soon. In the meantime, I'll be sure to check MPIP often. Please know we are doing our very best to implement these fixes for you.

        Also, in reference to the recommendations to allow some long-time MPIP users access to deleting SPAM, we will discuss that internally and get back to you. I think it's a great idea and as long as we can make that work without compromising the entire melanoma.org website, it should be no problem. I'll get back to you on that ASAP!

        Thanks everybody! This sight is too valuable to too many to let the darkside take over. I appreciate that this isn't a simple problem and there isn't an easy fix. Very important that we work on it though!

        Agree. I've been agitating (to the foundation) for moderators since finding this wonderful forum. It's a simple task to remove spam or clearly offensive attacks (I'd been a moderator on a large message board a while back). But access and confidentiality on a forum like this one raises the stakes. Generally when you have access to remove posts, you can view IP addresses and poster info, so it would have to be carefully done. Some boards are less sophisticated than others in terms of segmenting info. Just my take; things may have changed in the last few years.

      The bulletin board at MIF,  http://www.melanomaforum.org is regularly moderated and there is no spam.
