Scan Update

The scan came back negative other than uptake in right shoulder. I'm an avid weightlifter and have had some issues with right shoulder and images showed it was in musculature structures so oncologist isn't concerned. It's been an ongoing issue…some times are better than others. Anyway that was a relief.

So plan is to move forward with surgery which I hope to set up ASAP. In the interim, my onc is looking at options. Again, the concerns are what all of us are aware when it comes to adjuvant setting…no measurable disease, efficacy and side effects. She wants to get best plan in place and will have something by month end….anyone know of any good trials?

Thank you everyone for your support and encouragement…it's nice to have a place like this where people support you, offer sound advice and simply just understand what you're going through. I'm very grateful to each and everyone of you who read, respond or just sympathize. I don't get very emotional but I about collapsed in exam room this afternoon. I just pray for the day where they can find a way to beat this back for advanced staged patients and not have it become the ball & chain it is. Yes, we go live life and enjoy everyday but it'd be so much nicer being a wee bit lighter!!!

    Be well…check in soon.

Those results are definitely things you want to hear!  There are good days and bad days with Melanoma…..and then there are REALLY GOOD days, and glad you had one of those!  So happy to hear this.

Glad to hear the good news Josh! I understand when you said you almost collapsed in the the waiting room, sitting there and waiting for the scan results is just one of the worst thing a person could go through. But we do it all the times, we don't get used to it, we just do it. Again congrats for the good news, and keep the faith!

Really glad to hear this – thanks for sharing and very VERY happy for you.  It sounds like you have excellent care and what find so uplifting are the many options that Melanoma patients have now compared to years ago.  My husband is in a clinical trial for stage 3 so we know he's either getting Ipi or Nivo.  His side effects have been minimal to say the least.  Best wishes to you!

      Hi Josh-

SO happy to hear you got the best news……hopefully the surgery will get it all, and maybe nothing more…..

As I write this I am sitting in the waiting room at MSKCC wiating for pre-surgical testing….just saw Dr. Coit and my surgery will be sometime next week.

ONe of the things you metioned, about which we all worry is some type of adjuvant treatment when NED….

In my case, Stage 3B…..interesting that neither Pavick (med onc) nor Coit (Surgeon) seem to big fan of IPI based on the side effects, (some permanent)…..

They both agree on radiation, but that is obviously only for local control…..so what do we do to prevent spread (And worry) that there are cells out there wiating to pop up in distant places??????

Let us know when your surgery is, and also will be interested to hear your ONCs plan for next steps.

FOR NOW though, a sincere CONGRATS on this news.

      best,

      jenny
