Had a spot come up on my forearm – had a biopsy it was a basil Cell cancer…

1 year ago I had a spot on my belly – biopsy reveald Mel in Situ with evedince of HMB 45 – what does that mean?

also had spot on my Back removed and it was Basil Cell Cancer as well..

MD Anderson, Is recommending I get WLE on both areas.. I have been putting off… Please give your feed back.

    thanks,

There is a reason MDA is recommending excision as it is the standard of care.  If you choose to go against medical advice, then you have to be prepared to accept the consequences.  Basal cell will continue to kill tissue locally if not totally removed.  Melanoma in situ can kill you if cells escape the biopsy and go on to spread.  You get to choose.

thank you for your reply and wisdom… I know the fear Melanoma carriers, I pray for all – May the lord be with us all.

I had the WLE on my Leg in 2007 and a lymph node removed that was NED.

Then the mel showed up on my belly – my daughter was about to domino with my second grandbaby and she was premature.. with all of this behind us now – I plan to proceed with a WLE and other biopsies of the Basal Cell .

        Take care and paryers always..

I would get the surgery done pronto….if you don't, the potential outcomes get much more dire.

There are many on this board that most likely wish they had caught their melanoma's much earlier.

      Schedule that surgery this week.

Carol, the WLE is nothing, just go ahead and follow the dr's orders on this one. It's a few days of discomfort for a whole lot of peace of mind. There won't be any surprises here, it's just a precautionary thing to stop either the mel in situ or BCC from returning. HMB45 is just a diagnostic marker for melanoma – it's a way to distinguish melanoma from another type of tumour (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMB-45). It's just another way of saying 'it's definitely melanoma in situ'. Your skin cancers are not related to each other – your invasive mel in 2007 was one, totally unrlated to in situ, and totally unrelated to BCC. It's the price we pay for having fair skin (I'm guessing you are fair skinned based on this history).
