    For those of you who have been diagnosed with lung mets, was it found on a simple chest xray, or was a CT or PET scan the thing that caught it?

      Mine were found via PET scan and then CT scan.

      Susan, my lung mets were first seen on a simple X-ray. In fact that was the first sign of stage IV disease. After the X-rat was read they said my sore shoulder was fine, but asked me to come back for a CT.

      Hi Susan, mine were found on x-ray then they did at Ct which confirmed that there was something there, followed by a needle biopsy to confirm that it was Melanoma. Ed

      Hi Susan, My first lung met was found via chest x-ray for an unrelated reason (chest pains) in 2012.  Then a PET CT saw it "light up", then a surgical biopsy diagnosed it as a different kind of cancer.  Follow up chest x-rays were clear until January 2014 (again, a regular x-ray).  Lung needle biopsy that time determined melanoma (first tumor re-evaluated and determined to be melanoma as well).  No known primary.

        Thanks, everyone.  That eases my mind a little bit.  My husband has had two early stage melanomas, but I'm always waiting for the "other shoe to drop".  He's had a really bad cough for over three months now.  He had a chest xray at the doctor's office in April where they saw shadowing and thought maybe pneumonia.  I finally got him to go back to the doctor this week and they did another xray and our primary said that it looked better than the last one.  There's obviously nothing that jumps out on the xray … but I was concerned that perhaps lung mets were so small they didn't show up well on traditional xray.  Doctor has put him on an inhaler and a short regimen of antibiotics.  If the cough is not much better by next week PCP said he will do a CT scan, given the melanoma history.  

        Hopefully, since there doesn't appear to be anything on xray the CT scan will show nothing as well.
