I should clarify my question; I'm concerned as to the possibility of his shoulder pain being a result of the cancer spreading in his shoulder. Or is it just impossible that could be the case. We are traveling out of state at the moment and won't be home till next week, right before his surgery on the 11th.  I'm just wondering if we should call his Dr. or are we letting our mind run in a direction it shouldn't.

Thank you Janner. I'm starting to think that no matter what, we're very vigilant with his check ups, anything found in between these checks ups is a far better situation than finding something after you've had it for a lot longer. I'm happy to know you're doing well.

Janner – you've had three primaries, was your first primary stage 1b? – and you've been able to find the other two before they progressed?

That's what's confusing me I guess – can this mole be related to the previous cancer that didn't involve lymph nodes, so a new primary would make sense to me. He also has two other very tiny spots (also very dark) that are new and on on his chest. It just seems that all of a sudden these moles are popping up. That's how we noticed his mole that turned out to be melanoma – one day it was just 'there'. I usually don't borrow trouble, but I can't help notice the similarities here.

I would say that anything that causes you to wonder should be checked. Better safe than sorry. My husband was diagnosed with nodular melanoma a year ago, had WLE and nodes removed — all went well. For the past 3 visits over the last year he's had BCC removed each time. We were at the Dermatologist this past Wednesday and they removed 2 more suspicious spots. Missed the doctors call yesterday, closed today so we wait till Monday for path report. The doctor impressed upon us the importance of coming in for a spot check in between his scheduled visits if there's any concern over new spots. I really impress on you the same. Go get checked if there's even a little question in your mind. ๐Ÿ™‚

Good to know on the result turn around time. They did tell us they would have the node report within a week and the WLE report within two. That's going to feel like a lot longer I'm sure.
