| Bio | Apple announces new accessibility features: Door Detection, Live Captions
Another useful feature that comes with the new iOS is door detection. It detects the nearest door and helps you find the door to your new destination. It tells you how far you are from the door, whether the door is open or closed. Also, if the door closes unexpectedly, this feature gives you information on how to open the door (if it’s a sliding door if you need to turn the knob or pull it). If that’s exciting, then: Door recognition can read signs and codes around doors, such as room numbers or available access codes. For those wondering how this is possible, Apple says the feature combines LiDAR, the iPhone (or iPad) camera, and machine learning. Apps like https://apps.apple.com/us/app/pdf-scanner-app-scan-docs-id/id1495971405 are still available. Cool if you ask us!
Live Captions With a new update, Apple is also introducing Live Captions for the deaf and hard of hearing. The feature transcribes audio content in real-time and guesses what it is; this includes FaceTime and other social media or video calls, media, and even “chatting with the person next to you.” More for Fall Apple didn’t stop there, as it announced some other cool features coming this fall. They are: Voice Over: Apple’s screen reader for the blind and visually impaired supports over 20 other languages (including Bengali, Bulgarian, Catalan, Ukrainian and Vietnamese). Buddy Controller: A feature that allows you to allow traders or friends to play (two game controllers for one player). Siri Pause Time: For users with language disabilities, this allows you to set how long Siri waits before responding to a request. Voice Controlled Spelling Mode: You can dictate custom spelling one letter at a time. Voice Recognition: A unique voice signature that can be customized to recognize a person’s surroundings. Apple Books get new features and include customizations such as text bold, line spacing, and character and word adjustments.
