Diagnosed with invasive superficial spreading malignant melanoma in May 2014. Had wide local excision in June 14 and checkups qtrly for 1 year. I was lucky that it was thin, only 0.4mm however it was in Vertical Growth Phase so was told I need to be vigilant forever as it was capable to metastasising. I have 2 boys who were 8 and 10 at the time of diagnosis. I was also told by the consultant that it is familial and my family are at increased risk.
