My name is Margo. I am a 41 year old happily married woman with four amazing children ages 4, 8, 9 and 11. I grew up in sunny California, but now live in Anchorage, Alaska which does not see many cases of melanoma.
I was originally diagnosed with melanoma in 1999 with a single mole on my scalp. There was no evidence of progression, so there was no further treatment. Ten plus years later — In Nov 2011 I went to the ER with what I thought was a migraine. That night I had emergency surgery to remove a hemoraging metastic tumor in my cerebellum. Thankfully the surgery went will, and I recovered very quickly. I then had SRS to the tumor bed. After learning I had additional spots in my lung and subcutaneous tissue I began researching clinical trials. In January, I started on the Merck anti-pd-1 trial. I have also completely changed my diet – eliminating processed foods and sugars and replacing with healthier alternatives to give my immune system a boost. I have so much to live for and plan to attack this disease on all fronts.
