Bio

I am 45 years old; mother to a fantastic 11 year old. I am the typical fair skinned, light haired, light eyed category that melanoma seems to be attracted too…damn! My melanoma was a small mole on my left shoulder that I had my entire life. In the blink of an eye it changed color and off to the dermatologist I marched. Never did I imagine that the dermatologist would soon become my best friend! It’s been two and a half years since my excision and treatment. I research and read as much as I possibly can so that I am prepared if/when the beast returns. My genetic history is not necessarily on my side. My father is a melanoma survivor (and current patient) and one of the most amazing people I have had the pleasure of knowing. He is strong, stoic and adored by everyone. In just a short time I have witnessed his metamorphasis into a sad, depressed, scared man which is heartbreaking to watch. His cancer returned after 10 years and attacked his lung. The lung was removed only to have the cancer return with a vengenace just a little less than six months later. He is now Stage IV with mets in his lung, brain, liver and bones. He has received two rounds of Temodar; not a candidate for Ipi because he is so sick and weak. Each day he withers away more and more.
