Thank you so much Janner. I am glad to meet someone who is carrying this gene too.

I am just so overwhelmed with everything.

Always thought that melanoma grow from top down and if you watch your moles you will find melanoma in the most early stages; in situ or a very thin stage 1.
But I think that is not always the case, right?

How deep can moles go in the dermis?
And can new moles start growing from there or are they starting to grow in the epidermis?

During my research I saw that most moles who were invasive melanoma with just a radial growth were not deeper dan 0.3/0.4.

Thank you! I think I understand it a little more.

But when a mole is atypical and lives in the dermis and starts to change into melanoma, it first starts to change in the “top” of the mole?

I can’t imagine that when you have an atypical mole that lives in the dermis and is for example .51 deep, and starts to turn into melanoma, it is immediatley a melanoma with a depth of .51.

      Thank you Janner!

So what do you recommend, get it checked right away or wait a few weeks/months? I don't know how long it will take for melanoma to get invasive or dangerous.

My boyfriend does not have a lot of moles, maybe 10 to keep an eye on. But all do look very different from one another.
