I had melanoma that was 9mm deep and also in 2 lymph nodes in 11/11. They only took out the 2 lymph nodes and did a wle and then I had radiation treatment for the 9mm deep melanoma. They did 5 really strong treatments. I am NED since then. I go to UAB in Birmingham. I guess every dr has their own way of doing things, but glad I did not have all of the lymph nodes removed. You just need to listen to your dr and ask questions, why one does this and why someone else does something else and make your own decision. I had no type of chemo or anything either. I am stage 3B.
I just had my CT scan yesterday and ultrasounds the first of Feb and so far so good.

I had 5 treatments after having wle and snb. I had 2 lymph nodes that were positive. The treatments made me tired some and because it is more intense radiation than 30 breast cancer radiation treatments, I always left with a headache which they kept telling me I shouldn't have but I talked with others that had the radiation and they had headaches, also. They let up a couple of weeks after the radiation was done. . A week after radiation was finished the area was raw and blistered for about 6 weeks. I did not have a total lymph node removal, just the 2 that showed up. Mine was 9mm deep and they felt that was the best treatment. I am NED 15 months. I still worked every day I wasn't having treatment except the last day i had, I was sick and missed work. I went back next day, so really not too bad. I have regular testing-CT/ ultrasounds but no other treatments.
Hope this helps you some!

But did yours come up all at once or did you always have bumps? Mine has just started hurting the last 2 weeks and the bump just came up yesterday.

I was diagnosed as 3B. It was 9mm deep and micromets in 2 lymph nodes. I had the WLE and only the 2 lymph nodes removed. They then did radiation on the area where the melanoma was found. I am 1 yr NED. I don't understand why there is so many different ways they treat you when you are stage 3. I have CT scans every 3 months and ultrasounds on the lymph nodes every 6 months. This has worked for me. No trials or any type of drugs were even mentioned. Each one of us has to decide for ourselves what we will allow to be done, but I am glad I didn't have all of my lymph nodes removed. They did say if I had 1 more lymph node involved they would have suggested more treatment. Sorry you are going through this.

Hi, I go to UAB and love my oncologist, Dr. Conry and surgeon, Dr. Urist there. I am stage 3B and only had surgery and radiation on the site. It was only micromets in 2 lymph nodes but the melanoma was 9 mm deep.
Also I am originally from Indiana and we live in Lanett, Al. Where is your family from in IND?
My husband prefers for me not to be on this site. He thinks it makes me a little down. Anyway, my CT scan 3 weeks ago was fine. My radiologist wants me to have an MRI of the breast along with a digital mammo and an ultrasound of the lymph nodes and breast. I had melanoma last Nov and breast cancer 4 months later. The sites are only a couple of inches apart, so i will have these tests every 6 mos now along with CT every 3 mos. Just hoping everything is still fine. It is very nerve wracking to have the tests as everyone on this board knows.
Hope you continue to have good news!
