I went for my regular skin check last week and while I was there I asked the doctor to check a spot on the back of head that was itching like crazy. I expected him to send me home with medicated shampoo. What I got was a small chunk taken out of my head with the smell of burning flesh to stop the bleeding and a terrible anxiety ridden wait on a pathology report that still is not back. I have been NED for 3 years. I was stage 1 at diagnosis (it was on my shouldler blade/ back)and have only been hit with basil cell about 5 times. Anyhow I did not prepare my mind for anything on my head!!!! Now I’m panicking and loosing sleep. My head keeps itching but the dr. refuses to prescribe anything until he sees the report. He usually reads them himself but this time they sent it out to MAPS “to be sure.” Sure of negative or positive they won’t tell me. I’m so scared. If it comes back on my head I’m terrified and the Internet odds are NOT helping my paranoia:(

I think you may be thinking this is some type of recurrence, and that's not likely. It is more likely that — if this is even melanoma — it would be a new and totally unique "primary". It would have it's own staging and you would be staged the worse of the two primaries. I've had three primaries and I'm still considered stage 1B. First, you have no clue if this is melanoma or nothing so you need to try and relax. And second, if it is anything, again it is likely to be a new primary and caught early. Researching and thinking the worse doesn't help anything.

Thank all of you for comments and support. This forum has been so wonderful since I joined three years ago. Unfortunately I have no idea what the spot looked like because I paid absolutely no attention to it. I just assumed I had some reaction to shampoo or something which hopefully I’ll find out that’s all it was. I will post the results once I get them. And yes Janner is always a wonderful and very much needed voice of reason;-) -

I totally understand your anxiety. One thing I've learned and will probably never follow through on the advice I'm about to give you is, you will find the worst of everything on the Internet. You will find all the worst case scenarios, all the heartbreaks and occasionally you'll find information that actually helps you.
There could be dozens of things on your scalp that had you itching like crazy. ill definitely definitely kee you in my thoughts and hope that it turns out to be something totally benign.
