Still waiting on biopsy results but been doing research. Why did I have what appears to be a shave biopsy? The growth appears to be gone but the research I've done doesn't recommend this for melanoma situations. Man this is frustrating! The punch biopdy would have given a better idea of depth it appears.

My Dr. shaved my mole that was raised because he thought it looked fine. He didn't think it looked abnormal and gave me some pictures of irregular moles. But, just to make me feel better he did a biopsy. He called be back in a few days that I had melanomia. Maybe your Dr. just didn't think it was that bad.

My first biopsy was a shave biopsy as well. The doctor wasn't concerned that it was anything bad. It was amelanotic and raised and looked like a pink pencil eraser. So when it came back as melanoma, he was shocked. Everything has been punch biospies and wide excisions since. Glad you are now on the right track. ๐

Typing as I sit here at the dermatologist to have a wide excision done. The results were unclear. No melanoma. At least they don't think so. They are calling it an atypical mole but want to treat is as melanoma in situ. After that visits every three months for a year.
