7 Years ago I had a melanoma removed, it was only .52 and I only needed a WLE. This spring I noticed a small hard lump. The surgeon thinks it is just scar tissue. Previous to this spring the scar was very smooth.. Can Scar tissue show up 7 years later? Thanks in advance for your response. My prayers go out nightly to everyone fighting this disease.

Hi,
I scar from my surgeries. Sometimes it is right after, but other times, there is a significant lapse from my surgery date. When my scars appear, they are hard.

Could it be scar tissue? Yes. Could it be a recurrence? Yes. There is no way to know for certain without a biopsy. You could, however, continue to monitor it for change if you are comfortable with that. Regardless of what your doc thinks it is – if this is bothering you, I'd insist on it's removal. It's up to you and what makes YOU comfortable.
Best wishes,
Janner

Had a lump start growing in the scar tissue area of my groin operation. It keep growing very rapidly. It was putting pressure on either a nerve or tendon. My Oncological Surgeon tookk out the black melanoma the day I saw him. If it is continuing to change/grow can removal be that bad? All my scar tissue has gotten softer and less noticable since my operations. (First of eight in 5/2006, Last one in Jul 2012.
In total agreement with Janner. Change is major concern, ajnd comfort lael si also important.
