Hi everyone! I've been reading through some of the posts and am so grateful for this group. This is my first post on here.

I have been diagnosed with Stage III(c) melanoma on my scalp. Two of my 7 biopsied lymph nodes tested positive so I had an excision and am on Opdivo and just finished my 7th treatment.

At my last dermo appointment, she found two tiny spots of melanoma. I had those excised and the surgeon also found another small spot. All of these are on the scar line of the original site and excision.

The doctors say this may be residual melanoma (emerging and too small to detect and remove at original surgery) and differ as to whether or not the Opdivo is working.

Has anyone had experience with this?

Thanks so much and a very very Peaceful and Happy Thanksgiving to all of you!!!

    Best,

    Cindy

Welcome, Cindy. I have Stage IIIC melanoma. Bumps are currently on my scalp (right along the border of the excision/skin graft). I also have a suspicous bump right next to the scar from my second neck dissection. Will have Nivo/Opdivo infusion #6 next week. Pretty similar, so far, though I would not call my melanoma spots tiny–roughly the size of an apple-seed (scalp) or corn kernel (neck).

My docs scan after #5 or #6, so mine is coming up in 2 weeks. When is your next scan?

Hi Lisa. I had just had my MRI and my pet scan and they were both negative.

I’m sorry that you are going through this also.  So does your doctor think that the new spots are part of the original melanoma?

Mine are talking to me about getting radiation. Not just on the very top of my head where the original melanoma and the new spots have appeared but also down the side of my head and my neck.  And continuing the Opdivo.

I don’t know if I should get a second opinion on the radiation or not.

Have your docs discussed this with you?

Hope you’re having a peaceful Thanksgiving weekend.

        Best,

        Cindy

Cindy, hooray for your good pet scan and MRI results! My doctors do think my new bumps are part of the original; they call it local or regional metastasis. Nobody has mentioned radiation so far, but I think a second opinion is valuable–if for no other reason, some assurance of being on a good track. I'm curious as to the considerations for radiation v. combo immunotherapy. Hope you, too, are enjoying a nice holiday weekend. Keep us posted.
