Radiofrequency Ablation for lung met?

Forums General Melanoma Community Radiofrequency Ablation for lung met?

Well, I have my third solitary lung met in the lower left lobe.  This one developed with a few months of the second VATS wedge resection in two years.  (I am extremely fortunate that my melanoma has to date just shown up with solitary mets!)  This is the only thing that lit up on my PET/CT and my brain MRI was clean.  Because I had a bone marrow transplant in 2002, the docs want to avoid immunological treatments or other systemic things unless there is no other option.  Sooo…removal of that entire lobe is probably what will happen, but Dr. Wolchok, with whom I consult, mentioned Radiofrequency Ablation as well.  At first I thought it was like cyberknife, but it is not.  Has anyone had this?  I don't remember ever reading about it.  Thanks for any information or experiences you can share.

Happy, healthy, peaceful holidays to all!

    Lear

They do RFA for liver and other cancers – maybe widen your search a little.  Basically minimally invasive and generally well tolerated.

Thanks Lear. It was funny you posted your question when you did because I was just discussing with a friend about Radiofrequency Ablation for my two remaining stable tumors.  Hearing you say Dr. Wolchok mentioned it really gives it some merit in my mind.

Brian, I have an appointment with my thoracic surgeon here in DE on Wednesday and will definitly chat with him about this.  I don't know if my two previous VATS in the same lobe will be an issue, but ablation sure sounds better for a third procedure.  Up to this point I have considered myself really well informed about the latest in melanoma treatments, but this is new to me.  I will let you know what I find out.

My husband had microwave ablation of his single liver mets 2 years ago. Remains NED. Procedure went well. Good luck!
