Here I am with more questions. My doctor (family practice/GP) performed the excisional biospy of the mole which was later confirmed as T1b malignant melanoma. He has referred me to a general surgeon for the WLE. I meet with the general surgeon on Monday and will be asking about SNB as well.

As far as follow-up afterwards, should I just see a regular dermatologist or some other type of specialist? My GP said I can have skin checks at his office, but I would feel better about going to a dermatologist at the very least. Anyone know the best place to go in Little Rock,AR?

Regular derm followups are the basic standard of care for stage 1.   I'm a bigger fan of paying attention yourself to your own body so you know if somethng has changed and you can show your derm – instead of the other way around.  Be in charge of your body!  Good luck!

I'm glad your doctor caught your melanoma in time and wish you the best for your WLE surgery. With regards to follow up care, I would agree that finding a good dermatologist to add to your medical team is key. While your primary doctor sounds great and is vital for your overall health, a dermatologist is trained at mapping and tracking moles for changes. Since the removal of my stage 1 melanoma in 2013, I saw my dermatologist every 3 months for 2 years. Now, I see her  twice a year along with my primary care phyiscian, opthalmogist (who can examine your eyes for uveal melanoma), and OBGYN. I was only 29 when diagnosed and this experience taught me to be proactive and vigialnt with all aspects of my health. All the best for your health as you move forward!
