I'm not completely sure of what you're questioning, but Mohs or slow Mohs is typically not for diagnostic purposes.  It's used more as a treatment protocol in areas (face for instance) where the patient may want to minimize tissue loss.  A map of the area is created and a slice corresponding to an area of the map is taken and sent to derm path.  Derm path makes the determination if the sample is positive and if so, the patient comes back the next day to take another slice, etc etc.  Back to your question, what does your Dr mean by "on the surface"?  Is that in reference to its depth?  If you haven't received it already, you should be given a pathology report.  If you like, share that on this site for feedback.

      Good luck!
