If you want to be a total science geek, you can check out Dr. Diad of MD Anderson explaining NKTR-214 and how it was developed and how it works on t-regs. https://www.onclive.com/inside-oncology/solid-tumor-pivot02/the-pivot02-trial-nktr214-with-nivolumab

Ugh, we met Dr.Diab on our first visit to MDA. My husband requested a different doctor. He was such an uncaring jerk! Smart man, but not great with people. My husband is headed to Houston for his third infusion of Opdivo tomorrow. So far he feels good and the only side effects he has are he feels cold often and he sleeps great. I hope it's working! Hope you are well. I am going to watch the video, even if he isn't the nicest guy. Thank you for the info!

You must have caught Dr. Diab on an off day. He is my oncologist. While he seems rushed at times, he has always been caring and taken the time to answer all our questions no matter how long it took. One of my main concerns was what happens if ipi/nivo fails. He assured me that he had plans B, C, D, and E in his pocket but did not want to go into details for my sake, which frustrated me, but when we thought we needed it, he pulled out plan B in an instant and was very receptive to my getting a second opinions from MSK (who agreed with him). Plus, he was all over the news for walking three miles in the flood to meet with patients. When I mentioned that, he was very humble about it. I’m not doubting your experience, but I wanted to comment that doctors are human, and have bad days, and how I find it interesting that certain doctors are better fits for certain patients. For example, Dr. Wong filled in a few times for Diab, and we did not like him, whereas some people on these boards love him.

Thank you, and I am happy to hear you had a better experience with Dr. Diab than we did. You are right different personalities and all. My husband sees Dr.Glitza and we both love her. I do feel great about the care he is receiving at MD Anderson. We are lucky to live close enough. Take care.

Hi Amie, first time that I have come across Dr. Diab in a video and I have never met him personally but his explaination of NKTR-214 was the reason that I put up his video. Finding a good oncologist that you feel comfortable with is important and we all have had moments like your husband did with Dr. Diab, didn't mean to bring up memories of a bad experience for you. On the main point of the post, that is science for the science geeks out there, he does a great job of explaining NKRT-214. I had been looking for some time for something like this that captures the new treatment that is in phase 2 of clinical trial. I just hope it doesn't turn out to be another IDO inhibitor that failed a few months back. It seems that the drug is based on a version of IL2 that has been altered and works on it's own against melanoma, and when combined with a Pd-1 inhibitor, it seems to work even on those that have progressed on Pd-1 drugs in the past. I guess time will tell, I hope you enjoyed the first video at least, Dr. Weber seems to be like a big teddy bear. The only new combination that he didn't talk about and I was hoping to hear more about is Lag-3 + Pd-1 which is in phase 3 trials at present. Take Care!!!Ed

No bad memories, my husband and I actually laugh about that first appointment now. I lost it with Dr Diab, people could hear me down the hall! I am not the kind of person that yells at doctors, I am usually sweet and a bit reserved. I enjoyed both videos, I have started a notebook to keep track of all the information you and Celeste share. I feel less anxiety when I have some knowledge! Thank you.
