So my daughter who has the large liver mass, whom had liver embolization and four rounds of YERVOY just found out she is indeed Braf positive. Does YERVOY respond better if Braf? She has scans tomorrow and I'm praying the YERVOY is working. I'm guessing being Braf positive is better? Her LDH is way down from 8000 to now normal ranges. The wait until results next wed are torture.

I hope things go well for your daughter.  Here is a post I put together about BRAF status that may help you understand what all the gibberish means:  http://chaoticallypreciselifeloveandmelanoma.blogspot.com/2014/02/braf-inhibitors-for-melanoma-dabrafenib.html

And, no.  While being BRAF postive allows the BRAF inhibitors to work for you….BRAF status does not seem to affect response rates to ipi (Yervoy) nor either of the anti-PD1 drugs.  There is an article addressing that in the middle of this post:  http://chaoticallypreciselifeloveandmelanoma.blogspot.com/2014/06/braf-studies-from-ascoand-new-study.html

Hope this helps. Wishing you both my best. Hang in there.  Celeste

      Hi Jacque,

Great news, especially about the LDH!

Hope it will translate into a good scan for her tomorrow…

On the BRAF gene, it used to be more important, when there were fewer, less effective immune therapies. However, it still gives her the benefit of some extra treatment options (BRAF/MEK combo) in case other options don't give the desired results.

      Good luck tomorrow,

      Rick

Sheesh that was a long wait for a simple test. Glad the ldh has gone way down. That is a good sign I would think.
