II am thinking people use the word cutaneous interchanably with the epidermis and subcutaneous for the cancers that spead to the dermis (under the skin)… but definition wise cutaneous just means relating to the skin…the skin being a major organ.  Just a guess…my days of having it  just on the  top of my skin are behind me…I would say a freckle is a freckle ( when sitting on my skin)  but a freckle with roots is melanoma ( in my skin) ! wink
