    Hi Everyone,

    I have been following this site for a while and all of the posts and information have been extremely helpful.  I have a question that I thought you melanoma gurus may be able to answer.  Is it possible for someone diagnosed at stage IV to become NED if the tumors are not able to be removed surgically?  I have seen wonderful posts about others becoming NED but each one of them mentions having surgery.  I have never seen a post about NED without the surgery.

      My husband was dx with stage 4 in January 2011. He hs had a combination of surgeries (all in 2011), Yervoy (May-July 2011) and Zelboraf (since October 2011). The Yervoy got rid of a few tumors, 3 tumors were surgically resected and several tumors went away with Zelboraf. He is currently NED! So, if you’re asking if tumors can go away without surgery, yes they can. His melanoma specialist likes to treat with medication first, watch and wait, then surgically ressect if they are causing a problem. Not sure if that really helps or not, but that’s hs experience.

      Yes. My tumors have not shown on PET for almost 2 years. CT scan shows no change in 1 year and my doctor thinks it’s scar tissue. Never had surgery except back in 1998 when I was stage I.

      I had my first scan 2 months after starting Zelboraf and got a NED report. Will have another set of scans beginning of december. Had tumors in my pancreas, near my intestine, near my Aorta and infront of my pancreas. All resolved completely.

      So Thankful!
