Just east of Indianapolis. Closed both directions on I70. Pickup truck headed west crossed median and hit semi head on. Big fire. One dead and another badly burned. Road closed for almost 8 hours. I made an illegal U turn after sitting in dead stop traffic that went as far as we could see. Lost an hour and a half on back road detour. Talked to another couple tonight that were stuck for 2 and a half hours. Huge mess.

Got stuck in the same thing in the same area.  Was sitting 6-7miles from the first exit 2hrs later the road workers set up a detour waited an additional 6 hours because they had to collect a toll from every single person one at a time (getting off the exit as a detour) No EZpass in site.

Anyway, just be glad you aren't touring China.

Oh, I forgot to mention, the one tollbooth attendant was taking his sweet time answering everybody's question about directions for the detour.  Never crossed his mind that people might have been waiting for a couple of hours.  Actually got outside of the Element, cleaned it out (cross country honeymoon), cleaned the windows. checked the oil, checked the windsheild fluid, made calls on cell phones, read, got in a fight with wifey forgave each other, made friends with people in neighboring cars.  Put us back one day on our itinerary-luckily it was at the end so we just missed a 1/2 day each in Buffalo/Ithaca.

Hard ro complain about missing a day in Buffalo, unless you're heading to Schwabl's for beef on weck.

Ha!, Merry's best friend married a guy who was a vegetarian who always talked up "Beef on weck's"-in that cases he became a "cheat-a tarian" and had to have one.   They really do taste like a bad cooked roast beef sandwich.  That said, I never had one at Schwabl's.

Wings with beer at Bar'Bills, now that is another story.  My best friend from Vet School grew up there and he really has it made I always thought it was a shitty freezing cold place, but living in Ithaca (where you have over a month with no sun) it really was an upgrade and so I grew fond of visiting it(during the summers at least).  Upstate NY is like going back in time, everything costs 1/2 to 1/3 to what it costs here.  (He earns nearly double my income since he inherited his father's practice,) but the veterinary salaries are basically the same, he lives on  a 150 acre farm,  has a beach house, and has a few rentals, oh yeah and he owns a  restaurant, did I mention he is a hard worker?  He actually jokes of how stable Buffalo real estate was during the crash-nationwide (it is pretty hard to fall much when you have one of the lowest average annual incomes, coupled with high unemployment -they really were hit hard when the steel industry went overseas)

If you look at the Bar Bill's website, my buddy owns one of those Beer Steins on the wall, they are for regular customers, since he and his three brothers, and his dad are regulars.   I get to borrow one of theirs.  I like Buffalo.

My best friend is from Buffalo, and I went up there with her once to visit. She still has family and friends there. I'm amazed at how many people from there have moved here! Yes, it's nice enough during the summer, but speaking as a Florida girl, a winter in Buffalo is something I hope to pass up forever!

I am amazed at how many people have stayed there.  My buddy has 50yard line heated seat season tickets for the Bills.  I'm pretty sure he intends to spend his whole life there.  He makes the best of it though, they have an airport and he knows how to use it.  He makes a habit of traveling. I guess when you grow up in that environment,  don't even really notice it.  Bonnie Lea has a much colder environment than Buffalo.  Same with bcl.
