Hi all, I am feeling so panicked! I was fia

diagnosed in September 2014, with a 1b melanoma 1.1 mm deep no ulceration. Been in 3 monthly checks since.

Anyway, today I stupidly went out in the sun from12:30-2:30 with only my hat on intermittently!! I'm not sure why I was so stupid!!!!!!! I'm usually so very careful! My face has gotten a little pink. I can feel it too. The rest of me is fine and seems to have missed the sun. I was in jeans which helped.

I am now so worried! Will this result in another one? Have I done irreparable damage? Please help me guys, really panicking now!!!

Do you think so? Just feel so stupid and worried about it. I'm not too pink but a little is too much!!! My children have pink faces too as I was careless with them as well! Just don't know why I didn't think or act!!! Do you think it can have an affect? Is there evidence if this?

Relax. It's not the one time sun exposure that caused our melanomas.

It took years of DNA damage to create your melanoma.  One sunburn?  Ehh.  It happened.  Move on.  The horse is already out of the barn.  Sunburns don't increase your risk of recurrence.  This more likely affects your incidence of the other skin cancers than melanoma.   Despite what you do, only a small portion of individuals ever have another melanoma.  Relax.  You have to live life and you do the best you can.  Move on.

I agree, just be more careful in the future.  Not everyone who is in the sun a little gets melanoma.

I understand your panicOnce you get melanoma every mark on my skin can set me into a panic. I know one thing… worrying doesn't change the outcome of anything in our lives. Often we can worry ourselves sick when we find out later there was nothing to be upset about. I'm sure you're fine, and at least you're aware of your contact with the sun, that's good. Best wishes, Holly

Chillax, my skin specialist told me try stay out of the sun, but dont stress too much if i catch a bit every now and then, after all its a catch 22 still need a little bit of skin exposure for vitamin D, which can protect aganst skin cancer, but at the end of the day some Melanoma is just genetic, otherwise how can you explain folk getting it on parts of their body that never see the sun like their backsides or the soles of their feet !
