The lump from the one lymph node removal is getting bigger and harder and seems about the size of a tennis ball. It's very painful and feels like it's ripping out my muscle or ligament in the inside of my upper leg. Do these usually get hard and feel solid? I have an app't at the surgeon's office on Thursday but I'm wondering if I should call sooner.

Mine was hard, not as large as yours, more in between golf ball and tennis ball sized for about a month after surgery, then it was golf ball sized for a few months after that. Very uncomfortable, so sorry you're having to deal with that.

If it really bothers you, go in earlier if you can.

Hi,
After my CLND I ended up with a huge hard seroma /lymphocele.It was drained several times-but the surgeon said that by draining it we were not helping my body to reroute the lymph flow and each time there was a risk of infection.
Advice was to elevate the limb as much as possible, and also to use compression to try to force the fluid to reroute / reabsorb. Not easy in the groin – but used compression shorts- with dressing pads over the lump and this type of bandage to secure it.http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Black-Elastic-Compression-Wrap-Brace-Bandage-Sports-Stabilizer-Ankle-Protector-/161149509553.In theory keeping the pressure up fromthe outside speeds up the process. It did take months but the profile of the limb is now much improved. I also found exercise – especially swimming helped- but that had to wait until the incision was healed .
It is a slow process but does get better over time- promise.

Thanks Deb, I"m glad to hear it eventually goes down. I only had 2 removed though for such a big lump. I tried to go to your link for the compression sleeve but the item is no longer there. Do you have another link for it? Thanks.

When you talk to your doctor, ask them for the lymphedema specialist. They can fit you for the proper compression garment to help with the build up. You want to make sure you get something that is right for you, not too tight/not too loose type thing.

Hi,
Been at hospital most of the day .Have a similar travel time as you do..Next thing MRI brain – to check out headache problem post ipi and CT scan next month as well as usual clinic visits for bloods whilst on steroid taper..
The wrap I used was like this http://physiowarehouse.co.uk/mueller-wonder-wrap-00014701?utm_source=google_shopping&198=197&gclid=Cj0KEQiA4o3DBRCJsZqh8vWqt_8BEiQA2Fw0eYJClABbLpGdRyNixOQnJhiPQ9g9jl-g28z_cPmaj2EaAvke8P8HAQ . There are cheaper generic versions on ebay. You can get them with velco tabs that makes it easy to fasten and the multi way stretch helped stop it from slipping down too much. The velcro means you can fasten across a couple of rows of the strapping.
I couldn't get a lymphoedema referral until at least 6 weeks post op- but did have general swelling and a bigger limb as soon as the drains were removed together with the seroma- maxdrainage was over a litre and it was weeping from the scar due to pressure . More a melon than a tennis ball…Ouch . Lymphoedema has improved through weight loss- yes I was overweight- not really willpower here- more the forces of nausea and loss of appetite . Still it has at least a silver lining if we are looking on the bright side of life !
It can feel a bit lonely sometimes walking this path but you have more company than you might think. With all good wishes
