Hi,I have a wide re- excision July 1st. Having 17 stitches (breslows 4.5) and so relieved it did not spread to my.lymph nodes. I am healing well, but in the past few days noticed a few small blisters and one larger red like pimple near the site. My susurgeon said I had good clean margins.
I see my dema next week. Could something new show up this quickly?Scared in Milwaukee ……thanks for any insight

I have had similiar blisters appear weeks after surgery in my axillary area. (arm pit). Also had one appear next to a mole on my left shoulder which turned out to be melanoma. They both looked like a blister or small bubble and did show up on my pet scan. If it looks wrong or suspicious get it checked asap. This is some tough stuff. If you are in Milwaukee I am northwest of you 50 miles. Good luck, Dennis

Hi Dennis. .I feel like crying. I jystnphobed my dema’s office and described to the nurse my blister / pimple. She said, ” Oh go back to your surgeon!” I said the stitches gave been out for weeks! And the response was ” oh no it won’t show up as a blister .or pimple” I have 2 primaries and am getting so much conflicting info! Have you seen a Mel specialist? I have not, and have a feeling some of these good drs don’t have a clue. I will probably have to pay out of pocket for a good specialist, but feel it will be worth.it for piece of mind.

Thank you, that could be. I had my stitches out july 12th. It was well, all healed up. Do you mean I had disposable stiches under those? I’ve been putting on vitamin E ointment. …and the doc said it could be a reaction. ..maybe getting myself all worked over nothing…but.better safe than sorry

Yes – Most people with WLEs have two layers of stitches – depends how deep they had to go down into the tissue and how much they had to remove. Mine was two layers of repair with dissolvable stitches under the skin even with a surface lesion. Sometimes the dissolvable stitches migrate upward prior to them fully dissolving and more than a few people on this board have mentioned how terrifying it is to see a new "lesion" develop near their scar and then it turns out to be just that. Of course you have to be super cautious and get checked out but this can't be excluded as a possibility.

I've had this issue with disposable stitches with all three wles. However, it did not present as blister or pimple-like thing near the scar. In each case, the stitch protruded from the scar itself, not nearby. If I ran my finger over the scar it was either spiky (if stitch was cut) or smooth (if stitch uncut). I could pretty much grab the stitch with tweezers… They look and feel like thin fishing line. The wounds did not close properly until I had the dr stretch/cut the internal stitch so it bounced back under my skin. Once that was done, the wound healed.

I used local specialists first but when they told me interferon was the way to go I asked the Mayo Clinic for a second opinion. Mayos oncologists see more melanoma cases in a week than these locals will see in a lifetime. My locals were affiliated with Froedhert but still didn't have a clue. Get checked by a melanoma specialist. Madison University Hospital Carbone Cancer Clinic may have some people with more experience if you want to stay in state. Stay positive. Dennis

So Dennis, Wheaton Franciscan health in MKE, said they have a mel specialist, Jonathan Treisman, I think they still do interferon which makes me leary to persue a second option there anyway. Thank you everyone! You do a great service! Kathy McC -
