Robaxin (Methocarbamol-Injektion, USP) Injectable, ein Carbamat-Derivat von Guaifenesin, ist ein Beruhigungsmittel für das zentrale Nervensystem (ZNS) mit sedierenden und muskuloskelettalen entspannenden Eigenschaften. Es handelt sich um eine sterile, pyrogenfreie Lösung für die intramuskuläre oder intravenöse Verabreichung.

 

Jeder ml enthält: Methocarbamol, USP 100 mg, Polyethylenglykol 300, NF 0,5 mL, Wasser für Injektionszwecke, USP q.s. Der pH-Wert wird, falls erforderlich, mit Salzsäure und/oder Natriumhydroxid eingestellt. Der chemische Name von Methocarbamol ist 3-(2-Methoxyphenoxy)-1,2-propandiol-1-carbamat und hat die Summenformel C11H15NO5. Sein Molekulargewicht beträgt 241,24. Die Strukturformel ist unten dargestellt:

 

 

Methocarbamol ist ein weißes Pulver, schwer löslich in Wasser und Chloroform, löslich in Alkohol (nur bei Erwärmung) und Propylenglykol und unlöslich in Benzol und n-Hexan.

 

Robaxin Injectable hat einen pH-Wert zwischen 3,5 und 6,0.

Robaxin – Klinische Pharmakologie

Der Wirkmechanismus von Methocarbamol beim Menschen ist nicht bekannt, könnte aber auf eine allgemeine ZNS-Depression zurückzuführen sein. Es hat keine direkte Wirkung auf den Kontraktionsmechanismus der quergestreiften Muskulatur, die motorische Endplatte oder die Nervenfaser.
