    Hi everyone,

My cousin, 32 and otherwise very healthy, was recently diagnosed with oral mucosal melanoma.  We've been on the hunt for a specialist or cancer center in Canada that have experience in treating this form of cancer.  Right now we have an option to treat him in China for the short term, as they have more experience with this type of cancer.  But we need to figure out an option for his long term care within Canada, can't keep going back to China.  Does anyone have any knowledge of who/where we should go to for help on his treatment?

Thank you so much for your help!!

P.S. While on that same web site, I also found this:

Not in Canada but wonder if you could contact them to ask for recommendations for melanoma specialists in Canada.

I doubt in China they got more experience, since melanoma impact more light skin color people than dark skin color people.

17 years ago I was in China and found melanoma, and there were really very very few people I saw in treatment.

With cutaneous melanoma (those appearing on the outer skin), yes it is more common in light skinned races.  But with mucosal melanoma, which appears on the inner linings, these are more common in those of Asian heritage.  This is why China and Japan both have more experience in these type of melanomas than the Western countries.
