Hi Kevin,
When i was first diagnosed in San Diego it was missed 3 times by different Sharp hospital doctors. My first surgeon was Dr. Yerevanian at Sharp Reese Stealy. He was an amaaaaazzzzzing surgeon..did a great job on my LND and SNB. Very positive and very experienced. He used to work at Sloan Kettering . My first oncologist at Sharp was absolutely horrible…horrible bedside manner, mean , old man who told me i had less than a couple years to live and there was nothing i could do..didnt recommend a lnd or any type of scans or follow up treatment. Lets just say after that experience I found this board.
I asked around and ended up choosing to go to UCSF for an appointment/evaluation. It was there I met Dr. Adil Daud. He is an aammmmmaazzzing doctor. His team made me feel so comfortable and they are so experienced there. They work at the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center , in the Melanoma Clinic. I would highly highly recommend them. the number is 415-353-9900.
I have also gone to Dr. Edward McClay in Encinitas. He works at Pacfic Oncology and Hematology and has several books out about melanoma. He is also an amazing docctor. I went to see him last month just for another opinion and he was great..I really wanted to get into his trial because it has great numbers and is close to SD , but unfortunately it has been too long since my surgery to get in (its been a year). His number is 760-452-3340.
So bascially i go to an oncologist here, about every 3 weeks and then i head to UCSF for an app with their team about every 4 months..my new oncologist here is great too..Dr. Reissman at Sharp Reese Stealy. You definitely need to get yourself to a melanoma specialist pronto. Most oncologists dont really know the latest with melanoma..as far as diagnosis, treatment options , trials etc.
Do you have a plan yet? Email me if you want any more info !
